[SHINee] [Translation] SM Artists and Repertoire head, Lee Sung-soo, Praises Jonghyun
* This is an excerpt from a book released by lyricist Kim Eana. She is a lyricist famous for penning songs for Brown Eyed Girls (Abracadabra, Sign, Sixth Sense, Gain's Bloom), IU (Good Day, The Red Shoes), SHINee (Hello), etc.
Kim Eana: I want to ask which work in SM A&R made you the most emotional.
Lee Sung-soo: For me, it was during that time I was in charge of SHINee. I really loved that song by Alejandro Sanz, "Y Si Fuera Ella". I thought that SHINee's member, Jonghyun, who sang the song really did it it a cool way. Through that song, the song, "Hyeya" was born. The process (of remaking it) was really full of hardship, but personally I felt very emotional during that course of work.
Kim Eana: I certainly became SHINee's fan through that song! You set the background for that song, didn't you?
Lee Sung-soo: Not at all. All the work in that song was by the arranger/lyricist/director Kenzie and Jonghyun. This is not just because I'm being modest; it's true. The recording took around five days. It was difficult recreating the impression of the words in the song's original language (Spanish). Jonghyun was exhausted and Kenzie also had a lot of trouble. When President Lee Soo-man listened to the finished product, he took a liking to it and decided that it should be broadcasted/released. It was decided that Jonghyun singing that song would give a good positioning for SHINee in that time.
